The following words form the basis for the territorial acknowledgements that Babs Kelly, the BCLTA Director for Learning and Development uses for BCLTA Governance Workshops and Trustee Meet-ups. As the acknowledgement is heart-felt and reflective of an ongoing reconciliation journey it will vary from workshop to workshop.
“We are meeting today throughout BC on the territories of Indigenous peoples whose historic relationship continues to the day and as such I recognize the inherent Indigenous rights on this land, the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in BC, and the support for the 94 calls to action for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
My name is Babs Kelly and I am joining you from Prince George on the traditional and unceded territory of the LheidliT’enneh.
Today as I think on our governance work and learning together, this acknowledgement reminds me …
I invite all of us to take a moment to reflect on territorial acknowledgements, our personal reconciliation journeys, and our governance work. If you feel like sharing your thoughts please do.”
This acknowledgement is being shared on the BCLTA website in response to membership requests.
