BCLTA Book Club

Join Anni Holtby in BCLTA’s first Book Club!

We’ll use Eric Klinenberg’s Palaces for the People to inspire conversation on the role of libraries as essential social infrastructures in our communities. Klinenberg asks us to consider how shared spaces, such as libraries, form crucial connections needed for democratic societies to thrive.

Through the readings and video clips, we will reflect on how your library’s values, mission, and vision support essential social infrastructures in your community. Through our discussions we’ll explore what you can apply in your governance and advocacy work.

In the final session there will be additional discussion on how to incorporate a book club into your board’s learning and development plan.

Check your local library for Palaces for the People: How social infrastructure can help fight inequality, polarization, and the decline of civic life by Eric Klinenberg.

Anni is the Nelson Public Library Board Chair and has been a frequent and much appreciated facilitator of BCLTA workshops. You can read Anni’s bio here on the BCLTA website.
